about

This song is about being socially inept and "sticking your foot in it" at entirely the wrong time. This happens to me far more often that I'd like, with my words, phrases and intentions being completely lost in translation.

I also have a habit of using overly dramatic language in normal situations, or talking a load of nonsense in socially awkward situations as a reaction to my own discomfort!

Although the song appears light-hearted in nature, it explores concepts of nervousness, insecurity, and a lack of self confidence.

lyrics

I know what I'd like to be
Full of clarity, eloquence and class
But it seems the words are stuck
In a right little rut
And my brain's got such a case of nerves

Now hang on a second while I stop to think

See, I try to concentrate
And keep everything locked up in my mind
But it's a mess in my head
Full of songs and regrets
Some of them spill out of my face

It seems I've remembered what I tried to say

You know, I'm breathless again, tired and exasperated
Short on breathing again, I feel inebriated
I stumble over letters and gaps in my words that muddle up expressions that I try to form
But as long as you know what I'm trying to say then it's all fine
I'm just fine

Here's a secret for you
It's something that I try to keep quiet
It seems you're confused
I'm a tad misconstrued
I'm not really a confident guy

It seems I've remembered what I tried to say

You know, I'm breathless again, tired and exasperated
Short on breathing again, I feel inebriated
I stumble over letters and gaps in my words that muddle up expressions that I try to form
But as long as you know what I'm trying to say then it's all fine
I'm just fine

Here's all that I've wanted to be heard, to be loved, for my words
Listen, please be my soundboard, as your smile is the cure for my nerves
(Speaking from my heart means that I stumble over terms)
(and my songs express the truth of being stuck with the absurd)
(Although I try to concentrate and focus on my words)
(The meanings fall to pieces as I try to make them work)

You know, I'm breathless again, tired and exasperated
Short on breathing again, I feel inebriated
I stumble over letters and gaps in my words that muddle up expressions that I try to form
But as long as you know what I'm trying to say then it's all fine
I'm just fine
